About Us At Landscaping Info 4 U
Landscaping Info 4u is my hobby site about my love all all things relating to gardening. Ever since I was a very small child gardening has been an important part of my life and the world of nature has always had a hold on me. During my school days I spent much of my spare time earning a little cash maintaining other folks gardens and as I grew older I branched out into garden design and landscape gardening.
Unfortunately the local competition was too strong and it was clear from very early on that gardening was unlikely to be able to support me so I chose a different career path. However I remained an avid gardener and every place I lived I created a garden, even in the smallest of spaces.
Over the years I built up an extensive knowledge in urban gardening and through many trials and errors I continued to gain a wealth of knowledge and experience. Unfortunately I never really got much of an opportunity to enjoy the fruits of my labor as each time my wonderfully crafted garden started to reach a level of maturity (where I was happy with the way it looked) it was time to move on.
In 1991 I was forced to retire due to ill health and I moved to an extremely rural area. Of course I immediately set about creating a garden but this time I had to face new challenges. I had chosen to live in a remote, windswept, coastal area and I quickly learnt that most of my favorite plants could not survive in such a climate so I quickly had to adapt.
In such a location it is difficult to find plants which could thrive and, due to the fact that things grew much slower there, it took me a couple of seasons to even get a hint at which plants could ultimately survive. I had to learn new methods of how to protect my plants and also how to get them strong and healthy in the shortest possible time. While I still have much to learn I still feel as though I have much to share and this was the reason for creating this site.
Creating Landscaping Info 4U
Where I live the winters are long and hard so there is little for me to do in the garden during this time. To pass the time I started to build web sites, initially about my local area, and I decided to start a gardening site.
Initially I filled the site with general information which could be obtained elsewhere but I began to notice that other sites iether catered for the already experienced gardener or offered such general information that it was pretty much useless. I took another look at my own site and realised that it actually fell into the later category.
Recently I have removed much of the content from the site and clarified much of what was left. I now have a clearer picture of where I want to take the site and who my target audience is. Unfortunately when I started in gardening there was not much help available other than the local library and the books available helped little as they too catered for the already informed gardener. I have therefore decided that I shall direct the site towards the busy family who wish to become involved in gardening for the enjoyment of it. While some of the initial material may seem a little on the general side I plan to create more detailed pages at a later date and arrange the site so that a person should be able to start at the beginning and read through the site until they become reasonably proficient.
Over the coming months I will be arranging the information already on the site in such a way as it reads more like a "beginners guide to" book about gardening. I now have two people who help with the site from time to time by making contributions and checking over my own writings. While I have a tendancy to rant a little about global warming and the likes my two friends keep me from pushing things that little bit too far for the average reader to handle. I will be adding a "contact us" page soon but my friend Phil will deal with any contact as I would rather devote my time to this and my other sites.
