Statuary Garden Fountains
In the previous article we took a look at using sculptures in fountains and the various options open to you. In the following article we take a closer look at statuary garden fountains in particular. Just in case you did not realize it statuary garden fountains are those which incorporate statues into their design. There are two basic ways in which you can use a statue in a water fountain, it can act as the main aspect of the fountain, usually central, or you can decorate a fountain with one or more statues of various types.
Any opportunity to add interest and movement in a garden should be investigated and before you jump in and add something to your design it is important to study the various options available to you. It is also important, especially with statues, that you carefully choose additions to your garden design in relation to size and shape. All this is before you even choose a particular design, which again, you will have to investigate.
There are many statuary garden fountains available online and offline from a variety of suppliers or you can create your own (see articles at the bottom of the list below this article) or you can commission somebody to create something unique. In previous articles I have briefly mentioned that you can use statues in two basic ways, as the main aspect of your fountain or in a supporting decorative role. It is very important not to use too many statues or statues of too greater size when they are in a supporting role as they can very easily overpower the fountain completely.
The Subject Matter In Statuary Garden Fountains
Statuary garden fountains use mainly mythology, history and nature as the subject matter of their statue. Humans or humanlike statues are, most probably the most popular subjects, especially if you include angels, cherubs and the likes. However it is also common to see smaller water fountains using animals as the main topic.
Animals are great fun to use in fountain design and can become a favorite attraction to kids. You may have seen wall fountains which are created in the form of a lion head with water flowing from the mouth and today more and more creatures are used in a similar way. My favorite topic is the frog, especially if it is created to scale, with water trickling from his mouth. You are really only limited by your own imagination here. As well as the mentioned angels and cherubs there are a few other extremely popular characters used in statuary garden fountains and Greek and Roman mythology is used extensively.
