Using Outdoor Garden Tall Tiered Water Fountains

Tall tiered water fountains look fantastic is huge gardens, the type you around large mansions around the globe. Of course such large gardens can easily accommodate such huge garden structures (in some of the larger examples I have seen they are actually larger than the space I have in my front yard). This has led to the close association between the size and number of tiers on an outdoor fountain and wealth and, of course, only the really wealthy can afford huge fountains with many tiers.

The majority of these types of fountain appear rather like a large wedding cake. They are usually very tall with a large tier at the very bottom with those above decreasing in size until you reach the top where you find a really small (by comparison to the first) tier. The top tier is filled continually with water so that it flows over the edges and into the second which then fills and trickles into the next and so on. The trick to making these outdoor garden tall tiered water fountains appear great is creating a design which allows the perfect flow of water. If you get this wrong in the planning stage there is no going back, you really do need to ensure that enough water flows from the top tiers so that there is enough entering the tier before the last so that there is a reasonable flow around its circumference into the last.

In the next article I will look at some of the safety aspects to consider when installing this type of water fountain but for now I want to repeat the importance of scale. Outdoor Garden Tall Tiered Water Fountains are bold structures that demand a central position in your garden and it is far too easy to choose one which is too large and will ultimately dominate your garden to such a degree that other elements of your wonderful garden design are simply not noticeable. In the same respect you do not want one too small so that it looks rather pathetic, balance is the key so spend some time looking at other gardens which use these fountains and see how they have managed to incorporate it either successfully or unsuccessfully and learn from them.
