Using Perennial Garden Flowers, Such as the Simple Achillea, in Garden Landscaping
A great many people now completely appreciate that a beautifully well maintained garden can add a great deal of extra cash worth to their house. It is also true to say that, a well designed garden can seriously increase the amount of useful space for yourself and your family. For these factors, and a few more besides, Landscaping has, over time, grown to become an incredibly popular pastime. High on the agenda for nearly all gardeners is a wonderful annual display of colorful and diverse blooms.
While many garden designers choose to create color by using annuals, others decide that using perennial garden plants is the best solution. Annuals are those flowers which grow, flower and die in only the single year whereas Perennial Garden Plants will continue to flower year after year. Obviously there are plus points and disadvantages for both annuals and Perennial Garden Plants and Landscaping is all about deciding which is the most suitable mix of the two.
WA large number of people have heart warming memories of distant days spent in a grandmother's garden enjoying the gorgeous aromas of many old fashioned favorite perennials & other garden plants. Unfortunately it can be rather problematic for even the most keen gardener (including some seasoned professionals) to emulate gardens of the past because many of the specific types/cultivars are no longer available. Happily many of the old fashioned cultivars have now been replaced by strains which are much more able to withstand disease, therefore you can often find suitable replacements which have hardly any (other) difference to the old fashioned plants.
Some Old Fashioned Perennial Garden Flowers
One of the most popular perennial garden plants used in Gardening today is the Achillea which first appeared in American gardens during colonial days when it was brought over from Europe. Achillea is an ancient plant used since the days of the Greek hero Achilles (from whom the plant gets it's name) who used it to help heal his soldiers. Achillea is able to halt bleeding and works amazingly well at healing wounds.
Achillea has beautiful flattish clusters of small blooms that look rather like daisies. Achillea are available with flower heads in a selection of colors ranging from various shades of pinks, yellows and whites. Yarrow are thought by most landscape gardeners to be relatively easy perennial garden plants to cultivate. They are so easy to propagate because they are rather invasive plants which can be seen growing on the poorest of ground. If you want to witness success with Achillea you only need to avoid cultivating in extremely wet or poorly drained soil. The plants are fantastic at tolerating drought conditions. Achillea ptarmica and Achillea millefolium are two of the more popular varieties but there are various other types available.
