You CAN Build A Gazebo
If you are good at DIY then you could build a gazebo by yourself quite easily. There is a huge amount of material available these days, that will provide you with all the necessary help and advice needed, and also advise you on the type of materials needed for this kind of project.
Once you have made the decision to build a gazebo, the first thing you will need to do is have some plans drawn up. You could try checking out places that would stock such plans like the local library (here the plans may be free of charge), book stores and the internet. Some excellent plans or blueprints are available to buy for as little as $10 (up to $200-300). Some internet sites will also offer plans free of charge.
The first thing to do would be to decide which type of wood you want to use, and then make sure you have all the necessary tools. The majority of the tools that are needed will be the everyday tools that we all have at home. One will need tools such as a spirit level, screwdriver and a miter saw.
The first part of the gazebo to be built will be the flooring, whether you want wooden flooring or something mre solid, the choice is entirely up to you. A popular choice with some people is to purchase ready-made wooden flooring, which they then attach the pillars or columns onto. The majority of kits that are available to build a gazebo will come complete with a built-in floor. Remember though that if you have a wooden base, you will need to anchor the flooring by setting some posts into concrete.
It is essential before siting your gazebo, that you check there are no underground cables or pipes that could be damaged when you are digging holes for your posts. If you are unsure about the placement of such cables and pipes then you local planning department will be able to help you out.
As with all projects of this kind, make sure that you have drawn up plans and worked out the price of your project. There is nothing worse than getting half-way through a project, and then finding out you have run out of money.
There is a wide range of materials that you can use to build a gazebo. Such materials include canvas, vinyl, metals and even some plastics. However the most common material used is wood. The most commonly used varieties of wood are red wood, pine wood and cedar. Cedar is very expensive as it is a hard wood. On the other hand, pine is relatively inexpensive and an ideal choice for the novice. Pine is not as hard as cedar so is easier to work with. The only disadvantage of building a gazebo with pine is the fact that it will not last as long as a gazebo built from a hard wood.
