The Enclosed Gazebo

In the previous article I made mention of the fact that the gazebo shown could easily be converted into an enclosed gazebo and this is what we shall be examining in the following article which will look at some of the advantages and disadvantages of using this type of structure in your yard, back yard or garden.
Advantages Of The Enclosed Gazebo
As I have said in all of the articles in this section, of Landscaping Info 4U, the addition of a gazebo to your garden can add to the beauty of it but also the usefulness. In the case of the enclosed gazebo this usefulness is extended still further for the simple two reasons that it can be used in poorer weather than open gazebos and it is also highly suitable for use as outdoor storage.
If you have kids and the weather is warm enclosed gazebos are great places for kids to spend a night in the garden. All you need do it put up a couple of camping beds and add the bedding. It always amazes me how much enjoyment can be gained from such an adventure. The important thing about using an enclosed gazebo is that you can fit a lock to the door and, if it rains in the night, your kids will remain dry and warm (it also means that you a far less likely to be disturbed by your kids heading back to the house in the early hours of the morning!).
Something else that is well worth considering is that, because the gazebo can remain dry, it can be fitted with an electrical supply. This one fact alone can vastly increase the usefulness of your garden and, to me, is one of the most important aspects of the enclosed gazebo. Having an electrical supply so far from the house may cause additional expense (as it will need to be done professionally for safety and maybe even local planning department reasons) but it allows you to have other items requiring power nearby. This means that you can run your outdoor lighting, garden fountain or even your barbecue from you enclosed gazebo.
Disadvantages Of An Enclosed Gazebo
I haven't left much room for the disadvantages of this type of gazebo and, in truth, I could have written more about the advantages. Of course, as mentioned, if you have electricity in your gazebo this may prove expensive but this is easily outweighed by the subsequent advantages.
Unfortunately there are a few things to consider before purchasing this type of gazebo and a couple of things to keep in mind when using one. Firstly you really need to make sure that you do not place damp items back in the gazebo and then forget about them. If you get caught in a shower it is alright to put things away but you must return at the earliest opportunity to remove those items which need to be and to dry any that are to remain, you should also open any doors and windows for a while to let the air change. If you do not do this the damp items will quickly become a nightmare as they can easily become very smelly, covered in fungi, and even damaged, in a very short amount of time due to the air being still with little or no ventilation.
Always make sure that your enclosed gazebo has opening windows or a means of ventilation as this will help avoid the above mentioned scenario and also extend the life of the building. If bugs are a problem in your area the simple addition of mosquito nets and screens will greatly help matters.
