The Steel Gazebo

A steel gazebo

So far we have taken a look at some of the various styles of gazebo available for use in your yard, back yard or garden. We have also taken a look at some of the many materials which are used in the construction of most gazebos and in this article we shall be examining the steel gazebo.

While materials such as wood and bamboo are natural and blend well with virtually any style of garden there are other materials which are more able to be mass produced more easily. As with any mass produced item a mass produced gazebo benefits from the economies of scale and such things as the steel gazebo are generally cheaper than similar alternatives.

Steel is a wonderful material which is well known for being incredibly tough and durable but, unfortunately, steel can be rather a heavy material at the best of times. Manufacturers have worked to reduce weight as there are distinct advantages to producing lightweight gazebos, the main one being less steel is used and therefore costs are reduced still further. One of the most common ways of achieving this is to use tubular steel which, while being light, remains tough and durable but is more prone to damage is handled incorrectly.

Other Benefits Of The Steel Gazebo

As well as being relatively cheap, durable and extremely tough, steel is also suited for exterior use because it is more able to withstand the pressures of changing weather. Unlike other metals steel doesn't rust easily and can easily be protected by keeping it clean and, if you really want to ensure it remains at its optimum, you can apply a light covering of baby oil or some other light oil. It is best to apply this light oil before the gazebo is placed in storage, when it is brought out again you can simply give it a wipe with a clean dry cloth and it will look like new.

Although it is possible to obtain a steel gazebo which has been designed to be a permanent garden structure most have been designed to be portable. There are many advantages to using portable gazebos which we examined in the previous article so please take a look if you wish to understand more on this topic.

As I have said in previous article steel is a great material for creating reflective surfaces. Reflective surfaces are often used in modern garden design but even in a traditional garden the addition of just one reflective panel to an otherwise wooden gazebo can create an interesting illusion which can be best exploited in small yards.

Finally I would like to mention an advantage that is often overlooked, it is really easy to change the look and feel of a steel gazebo by simply changing the color of the material/textile cover. Most steel gazebos are basically a tubular steel framework upon which you place a gazebo cover so, if you fancy a change, simply change this cover. Over time, no matter how well you care for your gazebo, it will become worn and changing the gazebo cover is one of the most cost effective ways of improving it.
