Uses Of A Greenhouse
There are many advantages to a greenhouse some of which are rather obvious, some not. The most obvious reasons for ownership are those associated with the cultivation of plants which would not otherwise grow in your yard or garden. This is achieved by the fact that you can heat a greenhouse to the optimum temperature and allow the correct amount of direct or indirect sunlight to enter that is perfect for your chosen plants.
Greenhouses are perfect for growing plants that can not be grown outside so it is logical that house plants can do well in such circumstances. In fact if you have any plants indoors that are not looking too healthy they can often be reinvigorated by moving them out into your greenhouse for just a short period, but always take care not to introduce pests or diseases!
Another benefit of a greenhouse is that you can propagate your plants in the perfect environment. For example you can germinate seeds which require an environment which is just a little warmer than your local environment with ease and once they have germinated you can grow them on ready for hardening off. Also cuttings grow more easily in such circumstances and, obviously, it is far easier to attend to, monitor, care for and transplant your plants if they are on a shelf rather than at ground level.

Modern Greenhouses And Their Advantages
Today there are masses of different sizes and designs available to meet every need of professional, amateur and enthusiast gardener. For those involved in professional cultivation or maintaining large gardens then there are cheap alternatives, such as poly tunnels, to large and expensive greenhouses. For the enthusiast, right down to the person who just want to grow a few herbs or flowers, there are compact, mini and windowsill greenhouses.
Modern greenhouses utilize modern materials which have been manufactured for specific reasons. In the past the only glazing option available was glass but today there are all manner of materials available which allow differing amounts of sunlight (or specific types of light such as UV) to pass through. There are even types of glass and polycarbonate materials which react to the sunlight to alter the amount of light passing through.
These newer material are now manufactured to be extremely strong and tough enough to withstand the rigors of all weather while remaining light and durable. Furthermore the cost of these materials has decreased considerably since they first came onto the market meaning that they are available even in budget greenhouses.
