The Many Uses Of Small Indoor Greenhouses
Small indoor greenhouses are cool, but they can also be hot or warm, that' the real beauty about these superb gadgets you can have total control of temperature and humidity. Depending on your choice of indoor greenhouse the humidity and temperature can be automatically controlled or manually controlled. Although the former are more expensive they may not be as expensive as you think because, in recent years, there has been a n upsurge in interest in growing plants, such as herbs, indoors and this has caused a decrease in the overall cost.
I only own one automatic greenhouse which I tend to use for difficult to grow plants that are unable to withstand the temperature changes in my house and the sudden blasts of cold air as my children dash from one room to another without closing the doors behind them. I also own several small indoor greenhouses of the type shown in the above photograph and although the plants in them do not grow as well as those in the other they cope very well indeed.
Uses Of Small Indoor Greenhouses
I tend to use my indoor greenhouses to germinate and grow on my seedlings ready to be hardened off and planted in my front yard. In most cases the plants I grow are bedding plants but I also grow a small selection of vegetables, such as cabbage, which I can plant out amongst my flowers. If you have a small yard you should try this as it is one way to grow your own vegetables without having to create a separate vegetable garden. The great thing is that nobody really notices unless they closely examine my garden plants, and some of them, especially some of the lettuce, actually look rather pretty.
Of course there are many other plants you can grow in small indoor greenhouses and many people choose to grow herbs. One of the main reasons for this is that herbs are simply so much better when used fresh. Once you have used fresh herbs it is often difficult to return to dried ones and growing your own on a windowsill provides you with an endless supply of the freshest herbs possible.
You can also grow other types of fruit and vegetables and peppers are always a popular choice as they are also rather decorative. Personally I like to grow tomatoes as eating one straight from the vine can not be compared to shop bought tomatoes. The flavor takes me back to my childhood when tomatoes actually had flavor, have you noticed how poor some examples taste these days?
If you have children small indoor greenhouses are an excellent educational tool. What better way is there to teach your children about nature than letting them grow their own plants? Rather than letting them grow stuff in the garden (where they can get incredibly messy and actually do some damage to your well cared for plants) it is far better, and easier, to let them grow plants indoors. Another advantage to this is that they can more easily watch the plants grow.
There are plenty of other uses of indoor greenhouses which we will look at in some of the articles listed below.
