Hydroponics Gardening

Roots in a vase of water

If you ask anyone what one of the most essential things is you need for growing plants, more often than not they will say soil. This is not necessarily true, there is another method of growing plants that does not use soil. This method has also been known as water gardening . However, the correct term to use for this method of growing flowers, plants and even vegetables is 'hydroponics'.

Things To Know About Hydroponics Gardening

When gardening the traditional way (using soil) one has to constantly keep an eye on the weather, especially when it is hot and sunny, this is because one has to constantly keep watering the ground to prevent it from drying out. This is one thing you will never have to worry about if gardening the hydroponics way. Plants grown in soil will also need regular feeding and you will also have to keep an eye out for the dreaded weeds. None of these things apply when growing with hydroponics. The water solution used in hydroponics has been specifically designed and created to contain all the essential nutrients and minerals a plant will need.

In hydroponics, the plants are able to absorb essential nutrients through their roots a lot easier and faster. The solution used for growing in hydroponics can be specifically tailored to suit the different nutrient requirements of the different plants being grown. One thing that is essential in hydroponics is access to a suitable power supply. Because hydroponics is essentially indoor gardening, the heat and light sources will need to be provided artificially (this factor can also depend on demographics).

Agricultural Hydroponics Gardening?

Hydroponics has been ignored by the large scale agricultural producers for many years, and only in recent times has the prospect of using hydroponics for large scale production been considered financially viable. Due to the recent advances in renewable energy sources, the cost of setting up this kind of production on a large scale has been greatly reduced, therefore making hydroponics seem an attractive alternative.

Even though research into hydroponics has been ongoing for many years behind the scenes, it is only now that this technique is taking off. Some agriculturists have said that this technique will revolutionize crop production all over the world.

Hydroponics is seen as one possible solution to solving the problems of poor crop production. This is especially so in certain countries. Because hydroponics does not extensive irrigation systems, and is less susceptible to pests and diseases, the future of this technique is looking very exciting.
