Indoor Gardening
Every person who enjoys gardening, from the professional landscape gardener down to the busy housewife who enjoy a few hours here and there in the garden, will all thoroughly enjoy the pastime of indoor gardening. There are a great many benefits associated with indoor gardening and in this section we will be examining all aspects of this amazing hobby, one which I have only recently taken up myself. Following the brief introduction below there is a video presentation and below that is a list of links to other articles about gardening indoors.
Gardening Indoors Benefits All
One of the most obvious benefits to indoor gardening is that it will enable you to grow plants which would, otherwise, simply not survive outdoors in your local climate. Cultivating your plants indoors is often the only option for folk who live in colder climates and even those people who live in milder benefits, can benefit greatly by starting off plants inside which they can later transfer outdoors when the weather is warmer.
Growing plants indoors also means that you can, more closely, monitor the health of your pride and joy. If you feel that the plant is not getting enough sunlight you can simply move it closer to a window. Another option is to use grow lamps which can also be used to artificially extend the daylight hours of the day and are most useful in winter indoor gardening (which is the topic of our next article).
More Benefits In Detail
As indoor gardening is so easy and management of the plants' environment is often just a simple case of moving a dial, the hobbyist is able to grow almost any kind of plant available. Although it will generally be the smaller plants that you will be growing it is perfectly feasible to cultivate tropical plants, such at citrus fruit or even rare orchids, indoors.
While the range of plants available to indoor gardening enthusiasts is utterly immense there are a number of highly popular plants that many people choose to cultivate and propagate first. Such plants are various types of pepper and a wide range of herbs. Such is the popularity of growing herbs indoors that there are a number of first class all-in-one herb garden kits available which are small enough to sit on a windowsill and yet manage to produce an abundance of fresh herbs in an amazingly short space of time. Until I had tried one myself I did not actually believe that they could grow so fast but when you think about it they are growing in their optimum environment all of the time with absolutely no fluctuations so all of the plants' energy can go into growing.
As well as the small windowsill indoor gardening kits there are many types of other kits and a fine selection of indoor greenhouses available in all sizes but we shall examine these in later articles.
