Getting Started With An Indoor Herb Garden Kit
Now that I have explained, in previous articles, the basic requirements of indoor gardening, you can begin to think about getting started. The easiest way to get started in growing herbs indoors is by purchasing an indoor herb garden kit such as the aerogarden shown in the photograph above.
As you can see, in the photograph, the kit shown has five small compartments in which you grow your herbs. Each compartment can, and usually does, contain a different herb so that you can have a wide variety within a very small space. While these containers look rather tiny it is extremely surprising how quickly, and how large, they can grow. The photo above shows exactly how the indoor herb garden kit will look when all of the plants are fully grown. Rather than the photograph being a usual mock up the reality is that these kits are so finely designed that such results are easily attainable even by those with no previous gardening knowledge.
In recent years there has been an upsurge in interest in the type of indoor herb garden kit which uses hydroponics as the method of growing. The reasons for this increase in interest are many but much has to do with the fact that growing herbs using hydroponics produces amazing results. Furthermore these kits are far less messy than growing using soil and many of the kits have equipment built in to maintain the perfect temperature and humidity to ensure optimal growth.
I have been looking into purchasing an aerogarden for some time now and, in particular, I like the way in which they have been designed for ease of use, especially with the light being able to be moved upwards easily with no fuss. This Christmas I decided that I would buy one of them for my family (they are a great educational tool) but I was surprised to find that many places had sold out. I suspect that this year a great many people will be getting an indoor herb garden kit from Santa!
As I look out into my bare garden, with the rain pouring down, and the clouds still heavy, I can see that I will get little gardening done today. When I turn to my kitchen I can not fail to notice that my newly installed kitchen has given me plenty of extra work surfaces. While writing this article I can not stop myself from thinking how superb it would be to have a few of these kits dotted around my kitchen. The fact that the aerogarden indoor herb garden kit can also be used to grow other things such as tomatoes makes it all the more appealing.
