Lawn Care Equipment, The Lawn Mower

A selection of quality tools

The humble lawn is one of the things which features in the majority of gardens and for good reason. Not only is it an area which can be used for a multitude of different things it also helps show off the wonderful beauty of your garden flowers, trees and shrubs. However the sad truth is that to maximize this effect a lawn should be kept neat and tidy at all times. Neglecting a lawn can have a disastrous effect upon the whole yard. In our previous article we took a brief look at essential lawn care equipment and in the article below I shall take a look at the equipment used for trimming the lawn in more detail. When we mention the garden lawn and garden equipment and most of us will immediately bring to mind a lawnmower but why are there so many to choose from and is this the only thing we need to keep our patch of grass looking great.

In our gardening store we have a large selection of lawn mowers, electric lawn mowers, gas powered lawn mowers, manual push mowers and riding lawn mowers. Choosing which is best for you often depends upon personal preference and the actual size of your lawn. These two points are the main considerations but other things to consider include how level or flat the ground is.

Out of all of the lawn care equipment available manual or push mowers are, most probably, amongst the most reliable. If cared for properly such a lawnmower can last more than a lifetime and often the only maintenance required is applying a little oil or lubricant here and there and ensuring that the blades remain sharp at all times. Many people enjoy cutting their grass using a manual lawnmower and it was once the case that the only way you could get those wonderful stripes was by using this type but these days many mowers can produce stripes.

Electric mowers are, most probably, the easiest grass cutters to use and can prove extremely low maintenance. There are many types of electric lawn mowers to choose from such as those that use metal blades or those that use easily replaced plastic cutting blades. Rotary, or hover, mowers are incredibly popular but you can also get electric mowers which are essentially manual ones with a motor. This type of mower is useful for small to medium lawns.

Gas powered mowers are incredibly powerful machines that are best suited to medium to large areas of grass. The thing to remember about this type of mower is that you may need to understand a little about the motor which will require regular maintenance.

Finally we come to the most expensive type of lawnmower the riding lawn mower. Due to the expense and the actual size of this piece of lawn care equipment it is really only suitable for the larger lawns. They can be great fun but great care must be taken when using them otherwise you could end up in serious trouble.

If you have a lawn which undulates considerably a manual push mower may not be suitable. In such cases electric is often the best to go with but some gas mowers may also prove suitable.
