Lawn Care Problems
Many lawn care problems can be avoided by following the advice in this lawn care section of Landscaping Info 4u. However, no matter how hard you try there are certain problems that are rarely avoided and, probably, the most common lawn care problem is lawn weeds. In the following article I shall introduce you to this common problem and some of the typical weeds you will find in many lawns.
Lawn Weeds
If you follow our advice you should have lush green grass, and plenty of it in your lawn. This is really the only way to avoid lawn weeds. Your grass should be dense, so dense that weeds can not get established easily. By ensuring that the soil is light and well cultivated, well drained and reasonably fertile you can avoid many a lawn care problem, including weeds.
Lawns weeds grow when the conditions are all wrong, when the soil is in poor condition and the grass struggles to grow. The main types of lawn weeds you are likely to see appearing in such a lawn are as follows:
Weed Grasses
Where your grass is thin and there are bare patches one of the earliest weeds to appear are weed grasses. These types of grass are far coarser than your lawn grass and their color varies so much that the overall color of your lawn will become inconsistent.
Creeping Weeds
Creeping weeds appear in gaps on your lawn and, to make this lawn care problem worse, their leaves are so low that mowing your lawn just provides them with more light.
Mosses, Lichens & Liverworts
Mosses are one of the most common problems which appear in a lawn. Moss appears when the soil has become compacted and the drainage is poor. Poor light conditions can make things even worse and it can get so bad that the mosses can overpower the grass. While a lawn with moss will remain green it will not be as hard wearing.
Rosette Forming Weeds
In my local area these are the most common lawn care problem, particularly daisies. Weeds forming rosettes have very low growing leaves and cutting the grass seems to make the problem far worse. It would seem that in no time at all your lawn will be a mass of daisy flowers, which may look pretty for some but, in the long term, destroys your lawn.
In a later article I shall be taking a look at eradicating lawn weeds.
