A Spring Lawn Care Tip

A spring lawn covered in weeds

Spring is a time of wonder in any garden, things that once appeared dead now appear to spring to life, often in glorious color. An important part of your garden will also, less obviously, begin to grow more freely and, in the following article, I shall be sharing a spring lawn care tip or two to help you to help your lawn.

Spring Lawn Care Tips

Tip 1
If you have followed our advice for winter lawn care then your grass should be suitably prepared for spring and the sudden spurt of growth that the season brings forth. However, no matter how much you have cared for your lawn during the winter months, the first thing you must do is give your lawn a quick makeover. It is far better to cut your grass sooner rather than later so, as soon as it is long enough, give your lawn a quick trim. Leave the grass rather long and only trim it slightly as this will encourage further growth, take it down to around 4cm.

Tip 2
Remove weeds now before they get a hold of your lawn. Some species of weeds are easily identified and and can be removed physically. I suffer terribly from an infestation of daisies and docks and there is little that can be done other than removing them by hand. If you leave this task until later the problem will be disproportionately worse.

Final Spring Lawn Care Tip
Even though you should have applied a suitable lawn fertilizer in late fall, and much of the nutrients will be stored in the roots of the grass, your lawn will need a springtime feed. It is best to use an organic fertilizer if possible but many people choose to use a "weed and feed" mixture for the sake of ease.

In the following article I shall be looking at spring lawn care in more detail and also at ways in which you can repair any damage caused during the winter months. Just click on the link below to get a complete list of articles in this section.
