Outdoor Christmas Lighting Is Good Fun
Did you know that recent surveys have revealed an increase in the number of people considering having outdoor Christmas lighting this year (2008) and yet other, similar surveys, have identified an increase in the number of people who, in the past, have had outdoor Christmas decorations but have, for this year, decided that they will not have them? Isn't that strange, I wonder if the total number of people having these decorations will increase or decrease?
There is no denying the fact that, in some areas, outdoor Christmas lighting attracts a great deal of attention. There have even been cases where some people have been banned from having displays in their front yard or garden. Usually the reasons are to do with road safety as some displays are incredibly huge and can seriously slow traffic as people slow to admire the view.
I have seen some spectacular Christmas displays that have had people traveling from miles around just to spend a few minutes standing in the freezing cold to admire the spectacle. An interesting trend is for local charities to be represented at such "events" and people often give freely to the cause. However it is possible to use outdoor Christmas lighting to create a less dramatic, but thoroughly enjoyable, ambience.
During winter many of our garden plants look dead and all color seems to have left and this is most notable in trees. In the summer months nothing can be so great as a huge tree in full blossom and throughout the year such a tree can remain a superb point of interest. Sadly, in winter, such a tree can look altogether bare and even uninteresting.
In my nearest town we have many trees lining the street and during the Christmas period they are adorned with simple plain white outdoor Christmas lighting. These tiny little white lights have such a timeless quality about them that it creates the most wonderful, almost Victorian, atmosphere at times. So, if you have a large tree in your front yard why not just add some simple white lights and see what a huge difference it can make. Imagine a dark winter night with crisp snow, plenty of icicles and your lovely tree in the center.
Whether you opt for the simple lighting described above or the bold and striking Christmas lighting you can be sure it will light up the hearts of many. Christmas is a time of joy and giving and spending a small amount on outdoor lighting can bring a great deal of cheer to passers by.
