Outdoor Decorative Lighting For The Security Conscious
In my previous two articles I discussed the very important issue of safety in relation to the lighting of outdoor stairways and steps. In the next few articles I will be examining some of the security benefits of outdoor decorative lighting and some of the ways in which you can protect the home while beautifying it.
Throughout this section of Landscaping Info 4U I will be introducing you to a variety of different types of outdoor lighting. There are a great many to choose from in various styles with the main emphasis upon making your yard or garden look more beautiful in the evenings. Although it is possible to purchase security lighting this is usually rather plain and boring with it's main emphasis on functionality. However it is possible to have the best from both worlds as virtually all outdoor decorative lighting can also function, to a degree, as security lighting.
Home safety and security seem to go hand in hand (see previous articles for information on safety) and indeed they are closely related. A great many people consider outdoor lighting an unnecessary expense and something of a luxury but if you value the safety and security of your home, family and friends please read on and learn why you should invest a relatively small amount of cash in such garden equipment.
It is a well known fact that most theft is opportunistic and paramount in the mind of the thief is the need to nip in and out of a house as quickly as possible while remaining unseen by neighbors and passersby. One of the most obvious points about outdoor decorative lighting is that, when it is switched on, it gives the impression that somebody is at home in the house and this simple fact alone will deter many a thief.
If you do not like the idea of having your outdoor lights on all of the time you could consider using low voltage outdoor lighting or you could even use sensors which are capable of detecting motion which will turn on your lights when it detects movement of something larger than, let's say, a cat. Personally I employ the use of both. I have a low voltage system creating ambient light and the lights to my front porch and stairway can be activated by switch or by motion detection.
In many ways outdoor decorative lighting which switches on automatically is not only a safety and security measure it is also a wonderful way in which to greet visitors to your home. Imagine a friend calling around and having to struggle up your garden pathway in complete darkness - isn't it far better to switch the lights on for them? In the next two articles I will be taking a look at exactly what you will need to do to create the perfect automatic setup. To access these articles simply click on the link directly below.
