Outdoor Deck Lighting Is Vital When Using A Grill

 

It may seem a ridiculous thing to say but outdoor deck lighting is really, really important when you are using a grill. However, each and every year, there are countless accidents associated with outdoor grills and other similar equipment. While many accidents are through stupidity and some are unavoidable many could have been avoided by the addition of extra lighting around the general area of the grill.

Get Your Priorities Right

First of all you should always consider your own personal safety and the safety of others whenever you entertain folk in your yard. If you fail to consider this you could find yourself financially, as well as morally, liable for any resulting accidents. It is therefore crucial that any possibly dangerous places are lit up sufficiently.

Decking can be lit in various ways, you can light up the area from above and below using one or two of the many outdoor deck lighting kits available today. If you usually have your grill in the same position on your decking it is a good idea to have several lights set into the wood around that area. While this may not provide masses of light it will highlight the area sufficiently. The photograph above shows a decorative example of the type of deck lighting I am talking about.

As well as utilizing any existing outdoor deck lighting you should also consider employing the use of additional lighting when using a grill. If you choose to use an overhead light (advisable) then it is crucial that you do not create a further hazard. Always ensure than any electrical cables are securely fixed and that they are not likely to be tripped over. You can cover any such wires and cables with a material tape which is usually available at a hardware store but I have found that superb materials can be purchased from a music store or DJ equipment store at a very reasonable price. My favorite music store is the only place I have been able to source high quality junctions.

Other Outdoor Deck Lighting

As well as the lighting discussed above there are various other types of outdoor lighting available which can be used to beautifully light up the area around your decking. If you have any specimen trees or plants close to the area consider using colored uplighting to highlight them but also to add extra ambient light to the decking.

Fibre optic lighting can be utilized to highlight any low walls or fences which people may trip over. Simply attach the lighting to the very top of the wall or fence and it will not only be safer but it will greatly enhance the beauty and help define the area where people can walk.
