All About Long Stem Red Roses
In our previous article we introduced you to long stem roses and in the following article I shall be looking at long stem red roses in particular. Of all the roses with long stems the red varieties are often the most popular. Maybe this is for the simple reason that, come Valentines Day, it would seem that everyone wants at least a single red rose and many want a reasonable bunch, so what could be better than growing your own?
One of the most romantic of gestures is to give your loved one a bouquet of a dozen red roses but when buying cut roses it is important to know your supplier. Some florists provide superb quality but you can never really be certain how long it has been since they have been cut and some florist have blooms which were cut up to two weeks ago. When buying long stem red roses you will want to ensure that they are as freshly cut as possible, preferably within the last 48 hours as they are at their best for the first week.
Long stem red roses should have a stem length of at least 3' to 4'3". If you are buying your roses in bulk, say for a wedding or other event, it is worth negotiating the length as many suppliers are more willing to give you longer roses the more you buy. Many suppliers will provide the stem in bud form so that it will look its very best (the buds will open shortly after you place the stems in fresh water).
Varieties
The best way to ensure that your cut roses are the freshest possible is to grow your own. You can be sure that you pick only the finest blooms at all times but it is important to choose a suitable variety. The "red meilandina rose" is a lovely long stem variety that flowers in abundance throughout the summer months. You will find that bushes are supplied as root packaged bushes from most suppliers and meilandina roses are available in various shades, including pink, and also bi-colored varieties. This rose bush can be perfect as a standard rose too.
There is no denying the impact freshly cut long stem red roses can have upon a loved one but virtually any red rose will bring a smile to your partners face. "Grand Gala" is another long stem red rose which produces mid to dark red large blooms. Other varieties include, Magnum, Black Baccara, Amadeus and First Red.
