The various types of roses are grouped into categories or families. A few of the more well known varieties are: climbing roses, tea roses, ground cover roses, floribundas and shrub roses. Each of these varieties of roses also have their own hybrid species as well.
The climbing roses are great for the larger size of yard as they grow incredibly long stems which can be coaxed into growing up and along walls, fences and trellis. They look especially stunning when coaxed into growing over arched trellis.
Tea roses are very elegant looking roses that grow as single stems. This makes these types of roses perfect for cutting and display purposes. The hybrid tea rose is very popular with florists, and it is this variety that is usually sold on Valentines Day.
The ground cover roses are self explanatory. These types of roses grow low to the ground but spread out width ways. Ground cover roses will spread out to about twice their height. They look especially beautiful when they trail over the edge of raised borders, or when they are allowed to spread throughout a mixed flower bed.
The floribunda species of rose has not been around for very long, and was only developed in the last hundred years or so. This species of rose has very large flower heads that look more like blossoms, and will look amazing in any kind of border, or amongst any other type of flowers or trees.
Last but not least is the shrub rose. These types of roses are very hardy, and have been produced to be resistant to disease, and to grow and thrive in many different climates. They are also the type of rose that needs the least amount of attention. So, this variety of rose is perfect if you do not want your roses to be invasive and take over the yard.
