However, this factor is important regarding all plants, flowers, trees and shrubs, and not just important for roses. Sometimes the first thing to think about is the type of climate you reside in. The next thing to consider is what type of rose bush to buy. Is it best to purchase a rose already planted in a container, a rose that is in full bloom, or a bare rooted rose bush. All of these questions will again depend on other factors, and what your personal expectations are.
If your choice happens to be the bare rooted variety of rose bush then when to plant roses of this variety is key. These rose bushes are dormant and should therefore be planted well before spring, which is the beginning of the growing season. Plants, like all living things, need a period of rest, and roses like to hibernate during the colder seasons just like certain animals do.

Look at the roots of your plant first, and then dig a hole about one and a half times the size of the root system. If the root system is packed too tightly, the roots will become choked and unable to spread and grow. This will also affect the plants ability to absorb nutrients from the soil.
Once you have dug your hole and are satisfied that it is sufficient, carefully place the rose into position. Make sure that the plant is packed firmly into the ground so that it will not topple over. Stamping or heeling in the soil around the plant is the best way to do this. Also, make sure that the graft is below the ground by at least seven centimeters.
Be careful to make sure that where you have situated your rose bush, is a position where it will receive a lot of light. Where to plant your roses is just as vital as when to plant roses, so take note, and plant the rose bush in your yard where it will receive lots of direct natural sunlight.
